What is Lifeline and do I qualify?

The Lifeline program is a federal program dedicated to making phone and internet service more affordable for low-income households. The program includes access to a telephone network with unlimited local calls, access to 911 emergency services, and access to 20 Mbps broadband internet. *

How to apply?

Create an account and complete the online application on the Lifeline National Verifier website: www.checklifeline.org

If the Lifeline National verifier is not able to prove that you qualify with the information provided, they will request that you upload verifiable documentation, proof of residency and photo ID on the online portal. You’ll have 45 days after you start the application to finish it.

Who is eligible?

A household is eligible if it has income that is below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or participates in one of the following government assistance programs:

Medicaid/SoonerCare

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8)

Veterans or Survivors Pension Benefit

Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance

Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TTANF)

Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)

Head Start (if income eligibility criteria are met)

BTC Broadband also offers a Link-Up America discount for eligible new Lifeline voice or broadband subscribers.**

Customers cannot receive more than one Lifeline service credit regardless of the number lines or locations where the customer receives service within the state of Oklahoma. Lifeline service supports voice grade access to the public switched network or its functional equivalent; minutes of use for local service provided at no additional charge to end users; access to the emergency services provided by local government or other public safety organizations, such as 911 and enhanced 911 (if implemented in an eligible carrier’s service area); and toll limitation for qualifying low-income consumers. 20 Mbps broadband internet service (hardwired and best effort).

** The Link Up America discount for new voice subscribers is 50% off phone activation charges ($15.62 value). The Link Up America discount for new broadband subscribers is $100 credit towards broadband installation charges if the subscriber qualifies ($100 value). Either Link Up America discount is in addition to the recurring monthly Lifeline discount. Additional restrictions may apply and are subject to change.
