Company History
BTC Broadband, formerly known as Bixby Telephone Company (BTC), is a family-owned telecommunications company providing local telephone and various telecommunication services to Bixby, Hectorville, Leonard and other surrounding areas. BTC Broadband is owned by the Daily family and is in its third generation of family ownership. Lee Newlin, grandfather of the present owners, acquired BTC in 1914. The company was sold in 1929 and was later reacquired by Dr. R.E. and Helen Daily, the present owner’s parents, in the late 1940’s. Mrs. Daily was the daughter of Lee Newlin; thus the family ownership continued.
BTC was originally located in a wood two-story house on the present property in downtown Bixby. In 1958 BTC was one of the first telephone companies to install dial phones. By 1959, customers could dial each other without the aid of an operator and were upgraded to four-party lines. A second dial exchange was added in 1966 for the northern part of the Bixby service area.
In 1968 BTC introduced Extended Area Service (EAS) by including all Tulsa telephone exchanges in their local dialing area. Soon thereafter, BTC added touch-tone service capabilities and began the conversion to private line service. Electronic and dial systems were replaced by state-of-the-art digital switching systems in 1980-1981, giving BTC customers complete 911 and custom calling features. In 1999, BTC began offering HSI broadband services. Since the late 1980’s, BTC has been installing fiber optics cable. In 2005, BTC completed construction of a new customer service center located at 111th and Memorial Drive offering extended hours and a state-of-the art showroom to its valued customers. Also, BTC was re-branded to BTC Broadband.
Today, BTC Broadband has more than 10,000 telephone customers and provides many other related services through its affiliates, including unlimited long distance services, HSI broadband services, business telephone systems, Sprint wireless services, and BTC TV. BTC Broadband is currently exploring other new and emerging technologies to keep its customers on the leading edge of communications.
